Shane Dewees

Research

I started out in the VEG lab in 2016 as an undergrad assistant and have progressed from lab technician to lab manager, to now studying as a graduate student in the lab. During my time in the  VEG lab I have focused on understanding vegetation fluxes between chaparral, sage scrub, and grasslands. Specifically I am interested in applying modern tools to gain a better understanding of the different drivers of these vegetation fluxes, with the goal of creating innovative approaches to understanding how climate change, human altered fire regimes, and other future disturbances might influence future vegetation changes. I am also interested in applying my findings to designing successful restoration strategies that will persist in the face of future changes.

Outside of the lab I love living in Santa Barbara, surfing, hiking, and generally exploring the beautiful front and back country that makes up our backyard!
